Two Types of Research Databases

2. Subject Indexes

  • Is your topic in a particular subject area?

If so, use a subject specific research database. Subject indexes specialize in a particular subject, and the articles indexed are generally from scholarly sources. Examples of subject research databases and the kinds of articles they identify are:

ABI/Inform
Indexes articles in nursing and allied health-related subjects such as nursing, health, dental hygiene, and radiography
Historical Abstracts
Indexes articles in literature
ASTA
Indexes articles in business, finance, and advertising.
